This one-day Safe Sitter ® course is designed for teens ages 11-15 who are ready to learn the skills they need to care for themselves and younger children. Topics include babysitting business ideas, childcare essentials, safety for the sitter, injury management, and preventing problem behavior. Students will also be introduced to infant and child choking rescue and child CPR. A completion card will be awarded at the conclusion of the class. NOTE: Students will eat in the Cougar Café with KOC students and should bring a non-perishable lunch. This class will meet on campus in an in-person environment. The Frederick Community College Foundation invites eligible families to apply for a Youth Programs Summer Scholarship valued at up to $300 per child. Eligibility requirements focus on family residency status, age of child(ren), registration in summer 2023 programs, and total family annual income, with specific details noted on the application. Measure and mix ingredients using a variety of cooking tools as you learn the basics of ‘kitchenology.’ A variety of items will be prepared, and you’ll get copies of the recipes so that you can make the deliciousness at home. KOC293 Mixed Media Mania AGES 10-13 Join us for an adventure in 2-Dimensional mixed media art! Be introduced to famous collage artists and experiment with layering different media options. Compose your masterpiece with torn paper, yarn, fabric, paint, and endless options for materials. Through still life and photo reference studies, learn to compose a subject with any medium. Mixed media lends itself to creativity and self-expression so you will have a chance to create from your imagination. KOC445 Calling All Painters AGES 8-11 Find inspiration with our introductory acrylic painting class. Learn some of the basic vocabulary of the acrylic artist and discover how acrylic paint can be applied in a variety of ways. From a classroom still life to an organic study in the gardens outside, you can find the master painter in you! KOC537 Dessert Circus AGES 8-11 & 12-15 If you have a sweet tooth, this class is for you! Learn how to make everything from pies, cakes, and custard, to monkey bread and cobbler. Desserts are not only delicious, they are fun to make! Learn to use kitchen tools and basic dessert-making ingredients and techniques. You can prepare a dessert circus for your family and friends anytime. KOC543 Stop Motion Movie Magic AGES 8-11 & 10-13 This is your chance to create a bit of cinematic magic - just like in popular claymation movies and shows. Students will write their own story lines, capture them through clay modeling and photography, and finally create their own digital claymation film to share with friends and family!
