Students will learn about the social influences that shaped the genre, as well as key artists and iconic works that defined it. Our spring offering will focus on the roots of the banjo. ''She'll be coming 'round the mountain when she comes'' - the banjo is indeed a part of our American heritage. It has a richer history than ever imagined. This course will include a fascinating video of the famous Bela Fleck and other well-known artists. Be prepared to change everything you thought you knew about this unusual instrument. The delightful and intriguing story behind these 500-year-old tapestries help us to understand the culture and philosophies of the Medieval period.
