34 ILR Registration opens Monday, December 2, 2024 Learning on Location ILR882 Brilliant Exiles: American Women in Paris, 1900-1939 Exhibit Bus Trip 1 session, 6 hours As a supplement to LIR309 on page 17, American Women Who Found Freedom and Fame: Paris in the 1920s, we are excited to offer a bus trip to the National Portrait Gallery to view the Brilliant Exiles: American Women in Paris, 1900-1939 exhibit. Students can join the bus trip without having taken the course however taking the course is encouraged. The tour is a drop and go tour. You will be on your own exploring the museum. Lunch will also be on your own. Lunch options include The Courtyard Cafe at the National Portrait Gallery. Exploring the display involves moderate walking and standing with areas for sitting. Lunch will be on your own at Westpost at National Landing in Arlington where you will have many restaurant options. Then we'll head to Arlington National Cemetery where more than 400,000 individuals are buried. We will learn about the historical connect between our military and society as we view memorials and visit notable graves. The tour involves moderate walking and standing but does include the use of a tram as we travel around Arlington National Cemetery. Note: Transportation will be provided by the FCC Shuttle Bus. LIR302 Tree Tour of Baker Park 1 session, 2 hours Baker Park boasts a wide variety of trees, including some particularly big, impressive specimens and even several ''champion'' trees. During this walking tour we'll visit a variety of trees, explain what makes for a champion tree, and offer some tips on identifying different tree species. This walking tour involves walking on mostly flat walkways over 1.5-2 miles at a slow pace. Rain Date - Monday, 4/14 Note: This tour will be conducted in Baker Park. Listening devices will be provided so participants can hear the guide over outdoor noises. Students will be required to provide their own transportation to the meeting location. Glenstone seamlessly integrates art, architecture, and landscape into a serene and contemplative environment. The works are presented in a series of refined indoor and outdoor spaces for an experience like no other. This tour is a drop and go tour. Though a trip leader will be present, there will be no ILR tour guide offering commentary while on the bus. Spend the morning and early afternoon exploring the collection and grounds. Lunch is on your own at either the Café or Patio featuring sandwiches, salads, and snacks. Both dining options are located onsite. The museum grounds are vast. You will spend a considerable amount of time on foot; comfortable shoes are recommended. Note: Transportation will be provided by the FCC Shuttle Bus. All bus trips depart from FCC.
