Argentina, using grapes brought by the Spanish, has become the sixth largest exporter of wine to the United States; while Chile, with classic varieties from Bordeaux and other regions of Europe, is seventh. These two regions are setting an excellent example for their South American neighbors. Learn how a land of great geographic and climatic extremes can provide the easel for creating delicious wines at such reasonable prices. Note: Must be 21 to register. University of Maryland Viticulture Specialist, Dr. Joe Fiola, will demonstrate how to better appreciate the nuances of wines by using the 5 S’s of wine evaluation. Dr. Fiola will challenge students’ skills and teach them to how to discern the levels of acid, sweetness, alcohol, and tannins in wines, and how to objectively evaluate a wine.
