Eliminate chronic pain and learn the root of misalignment and stiffness that can cause scoliosis, bunions, sciatica, back and neck pain, pre-mature aging, and more. Learn the Vance Stance with its originator, Vance Bonner, PhD. Continue to work on movements that allow you to stand, walk, sit, sleep, and drive in harmony with gravity. Students should wear comfortable clothing and be prepared to participate bare footed on a carpeted surface. Bring a towel to class. We will discuss epigenetic factors that affect brain health including nutrition, exercise, sleep, stress and gut health, and how optimizing these factors can assist in the prevention and potential reversal of cognitive decline. Planning to age in place requires making a series of decisions for this important do it yourself project. Learn to evaluate the level of safety and adaptability of your home. Find the age friendly rating of your current neighborhood. Compare the costs of staying in place or moving. Learn to review all of the emerging housing options for maintaining your independence. This class will define the term dementia and discuss the difference between normal aging and dementia. We will investigate the difference between reversible and irreversible forms of dementias, as well as examining dementia risk factors. We will explore the symptoms of various types of dementia, the dementia diagnostic process, and current research. Note: Course will meet on campus in an in-person environment. The American Academy of Neurology in 2018 reviewed the best practices for aging related decline in cognitive functioning and they highly recommended movement. This program is designed for active aging and evidence based for cognitive as well as emotional and physical health. The class can be done seated without getting on the floor.
