Wilkinson, a Frederick native, rose to the highest levels of the American military, by betraying everyone he worked for, with, or near. Wilkinson betrayed each of the first four presidents of the United States, worked as a spy for Spain, conspired with Aaron Burr to break the country apart, then betrayed Burr to remain in command of the American army. Wilkinson led the army to its greatest peacetime disaster and commanded a failed invasion of Canada during the War of 1812. He was court-martialed in Frederick and won an acquittal through the efforts of Roger Taney. Note: Course will meet on campus, in-person. The “tour” includes both past and present tidbits of history that will provide both amusement and insight.
