301.624.2888 FCCILR.org 33 LIR250 The Spy Trial in Frederick Town 4 sessions, 6 hours | 55+ Examine the life of one of the most notorious traitors in American history: General James Wilkinson. Wilkinson, a Frederick native, rose to the highest levels of the American military, by betraying everyone he worked for, with, or near. Wilkinson betrayed each of the first four presidents of the United States, worked as a spy for Spain, conspired with Aaron Burr to break the country apart, then betrayed Burr to remain in command of the American army. Wilkinson led the army to its greatest peacetime disaster and commanded a failed invasion of Canada during the War of 1812. He was court-martialed in Frederick and won an acquittal through the efforts of Roger Taney. Note: Course will meet on campus, in-person.
