He was a ranger for the National Park Service at Antietam National Battlefield and a historian with American Battlefield Protection Program personally surveying over 100 different American Civil War battlefields. Later he became involved with the Frederick County Civil War Round Table. Currently Matthew is a Park Ranger at Monocacy National Battlefield in Frederick, Maryland.
