Kids on Campus • Summer 2024 12 KOC741 Active Math AGES 8-11 This is Math for kids who love to move. Math concepts are exciting when you use your whole body to learn facts and skills! Using common items found around campus and all the space they need, kids will understand math in a new way. The interactive games and activities will keep their brains engaged in conceptual math so that when they return to school, they will be ready to learn in traditional ways. KOC769 Accessible Algebra AGES 12-15 High School is coming fast, and here is your chance to get a great review of material you’ve already learned, or catch a preview of 9th grade math. This exciting math class will cover expressions, equations, linear relationships, patterns and functions, real numbers, the Pythagorean Theorem, and more! In this class you will learn skills through math games, group activities, projects, and individual studies. This class is designed for students entering 7th grade accelerated math, 8th grade math, or for students entering 9th grade who are looking for a review. KOC770 Biological Science in the Lab AGES 12-15 Biological Science has so much to explore and when you have an academic lab to work in, you can try your hand at all sorts of experiments and activities. You will examine plant and animal life with dissection opportunities, explore organic chemistry in action, learn how the physical sciences form our natural world, and look at biological life on the cellular and molecular level. KOC771 Bugs, Bugs, Bugs AGES 8-11 Discover the incredible world of insects, from elegant dragonflies to shiny tiger beetles to flying fluttering butterflies and much more. You’ll look for evidence of the insects around us and examine real bugs to discover how they survive. Plus, you’ll test out ways insects capture and eat their food. Expect lots of learning disguised as fun and games, plus catching bugs in nets for those up-close looks. Students will leave camp ready to continue their explorations at home. New content each week. KOC772 Introduction to Advanced Science AGES 12-15 Science labs are fascinating and fun. In one of FCC’s academic labs, you’ll learn the rules and procedures to maintain safety as you explore the various scientific disciplines. Use the scientific method to discover answers to interesting questions. Find out about the physics that happens all around us, the chemistry that makes our lives possible, and the biology that keeps the planet healthy. This course is perfect for anyone curious about scientific study. KOC774 Marine Science AGES 12-15 Explore the biology, chemistry, ecology, geography, and physics of the ocean in this hands-on science class. This class will also include the dissection of some marine specimens in order to learn about their anatomy. The relationship between ocean life, the coastal environment, and humans will be investigated as you learn about the impact of technology and pollution on marine ecosystems. KOC779 Biotechnology Exploration AGES 12-15 Biotechnology is a growing field and this is your chance to learn how to combine science and technology to develop products and services that improve our world. You’ll engage in experimental and academic learning as you apply the underlying scientific principles behind biotechnology to classroom challenges. KOC784 Junior Naturalist AGES 10-13 Explore how dirt, plants, insects, birds, and more are all essential parts of our ecosystem. We’ll have games and crafts and plenty of time outside, including catching insects in nets. Learn how technology is changing our understanding and how we can all contribute to the natural sciences. KOC789 Genetics for Kids AGES 8-11 & 10-13 Come learn about the blueprint for all living things! How does a seed know to turn into an apple tree or a cactus? Why do we tend to look similar to people we’re related to? What does DNA stand for anyway? Come explore the science of heredity in this course that’s all about genetics! Study Skills & Test Preparation KOC778 Study Skills and Test Taking Strategies AGES 10-13 & 12-15 How to get organized, take good notes, and study effectively are just a few of the techniques you’ll discover in this class that brings test-taking strategies and study skills together in a fun-filled and relaxed atmosphere. Learn methods to keep track of important papers and assignments, figure out how long assignments may take, and discover how to break big projects into smaller ones. Explore different strategies to score well on essay, multiple choice, quantitative/math, true/false or open book tests, while reducing anxiety and stress.
