You will examine plant and animal life with dissection opportunities, explore organic chemistry in action, learn how the physical sciences form our natural world, and look at biological life on the cellular and molecular level. Note: Animals will be dissected in this course. Closed toed shoes are required. Price for this full day class includes Lunch Bunch: Bring Your Own Lunch. KOC771 Bugs, Bugs, Bugs AGES 6-9 & 8-11 Discover the incredible world of insects, from elegant dragonflies to shiny tiger beetles to flying fluttering butterflies and much more. Look for evidence of the insects around us and examine real bugs to discover how they survive. Plus, you’ll test out ways insects capture and eat their food. Expect lots of learning disguised as fun and games, plus catching bugs in nets for those up-close looks. Students will leave camp ready to continue their explorations at home. KOC672 Forensic Science Academy AGES 12-15 Explore the world of forensic science as you take a critical look at crime scenes and solve a mystery or two. Using investigative techniques like trace evidence collection, finger printing, blood splatter and hair analysis, test your critical thinking skills when you interpret evidence in a campus crime scene investigation. Note: Closed toed shoes are required. Price for this full day class includes Lunch Bunch: Bring Your Own Lunch. KOC772 Introduction to Advanced Science AGES 12-15 Science labs are fascinating and fun. In one of FCC’s academic labs, you’ll learn the rules and procedures to maintain safety as you explore the various scientific disciplines. Use the scientific method to discover answers to interesting questions. Find out about the physics that happens all around us, the chemistry that makes our lives possible, and the biology that keeps the planet healthy. This course is perfect for anyone curious about scientific study. Note: Animals will be dissected in this course. Price for this full day class includes Lunch Bunch: Bring Your Own Lunch. KOC773 Making Sense of Middle School Math AGES 10-13 & 12-15 How many plants can fit into different shaped pots? How do you know what the missing variable is? And which way is that line going to go? Play with numbers, explore how they grow, understand negative numbers, and find out how formulas work. While you work through fun activities, you’ll easily understand the concepts of pre-algebra and geometry. This class is for students entering sixth grade accelerated math, 7th grade math, 8th grade math, or those looking for a review before high school. KOC774 Marine Science AGES 12-15 Explore the biology, chemistry, ecology, geography, and physics of the ocean in this hands-on science class. The class includes the dissection of some marine specimens in order to learn about their anatomy. The relationship between ocean life, the coastal environment, and humans will be investigated as you learn about the impact of technology and pollution on marine ecosystems. Note: Closed toed shoes are required. Price for this full day class includes Lunch Bunch: Bring Your Own Lunch. KOC775 Mysteries in the Physics Lab AGES 12-15 What do you really know about the physical world around us? Why is the sky blue (or not)? How do magnets work? Have you ever seen a test tube ‘disappear’ when placed in cooking oil or used ice to start a fire? The mysteries of physics are brought to life with hands on demonstrations and experiments designed to link the scientific method, problem solving, and curiosity. Note: Closed toed shoes are required. Price for this full day class includes Lunch Bunch: Bring Your Own Lunch. KOC779 Biotechnology Exploration AGES 12-15 Biotechnology is a growing field and this is your chance to learn how to combine science and technology to develop products and services that improve our world. You’ll engage in experimental and academic learning as you apply the underlying scientific principles behind biotechnology to classroom challenges. Note: Closed toed shoes are required. Price for this full day class includes Lunch Bunch: Bring Your Own Lunch. Study Skills & Test Preparation KOC778 Study Skills and Test Taking Strategies AGES 10-13 & 12-15 How to get organized, take good notes, and study effectively are just a few of the techniques you’ll discover in this class that brings test-taking strategies and study skills together in a fun-filled and relaxed atmosphere. Learn methods to keep track of important papers and assignments, figure out how long assignments may take, and discover how to break big projects into smaller ones. Explore different strategies to score well on essay, multiple choice, quantitative/math, true/false or open book tests, while reducing anxiety and stress. Slow down, breathe deep, and take this class. It will teach you the skills needed to be successful at school.
