She came to FCC in 2014 as an assistant professor of English, and currently serves as Interim Senior Diversity Officer. Hannah Goss-Harris sat down with Dr. Dardello to discuss her community college teaching career, her efforts to increase racial equity at FCC, and her hopes for the future, among other topics. The Editorial Board of Tuscarora Review thanks Dr. Dardello for her service and wishes her well in her retirement. Goss-Harris: We really appreciate your voice and the work you’re doing here on campus. To get started, how is your day going today? Dr. Dardello: Thank you so much for thinking enough of me to speak with you today. Today is going like most of my days—busy—but it’s work that I absolutely love, work that I am passionate about. So it’s a good day. Goss-Harris: Good, I’m glad to hear that. And how long have you been at FCC and what led you to seek out FCC as a place to work? Dr. Dardello: So I’ve been at FCC for nine years. And you know, the easy answer, the honest answer is that I chose FCC because it’s closer to my home. I was also at a point in my career in my previous job where I felt like I had outgrown it—I was being very honest about work that was important to me, that didn’t necessarily align with the work that the institution or my department was doing at the time. And that’s what led me here. The first sign that I was in a place that could serve me and help me grow was when I showed up to the interview with a really obnoxious Afro—it was big, and it was how I was
