She is of Native, African, and European descent. She integrated the all-female student body of Stephens College, in Columbia MO graduating with honors in 1964. She subsequently graduated from Howard University in 1966, Phi Beta Kappa, Dobroe Slovo, and Cum Laude with a BA in Russian, and a double minor in English and French. She holds graduate degrees from the University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, where she received the Homiletics Prize. She taught undergraduate courses in the Humanities program at Howard University, namely “Individual In Society” through the literary lens of African-American Women, and Montgomery Community College, English as a second language courses. She is honorably retired, after 25 years of ministry in the Presbyterian Church USA 1980-2004. She has been published in literary genres of poetry and personal essay including Laurel Holliday’s Children of the Dream.
