ILR338 Retire, Rewire, Reinvent
2 sessions, 5 hours
This course will provide participants with information
about current facts regarding the Aging Workforce (age 50+).
Participants will learn about current workplace dynamics,
including generational differences, technology and workplace
culture and the key role that the Aging Workforce plays in
organizations. For those considering returning to the workforce
or making a change in their current workplace role, participants
will be provided with tools and recommendations for creating
effective resumes and honing interview skills. We will discuss
the variety of ways that workers can adjust their workplace
role such as reduced work schedules, consulting, or job sharing
as they look towards retirement. We will also discuss practical
considerations such as liability insurance, taxes and health
insurance as workers consider consulting or part-time work
arrangements. Participants will receive a list of local resources
to assist them in their employment transition, whether it is re-
entering the workforce, changing roles or “stepping down” their
work commitments as they move towards retirement.
Instructor:

Timmons, Sukanya Bora, Lisa Shuster, Dr. Robert Hotes,
Peg McGreevey and John Mauck of Frederick County SHRM.
Frederick County SHRM is the local chapter of the Society
for Human Resources Management. They have been active in
the Frederick Community for over 40 years. SHRM strives to
promote the development, improvement, and application of
human resources, employee relations, and human resource
administration policies and practices for our members. Our
membership includes 140 HR professional representing over 90
Frederick area businesses.

4 sessions, 8 hours
This course will re-introduce you to basic mathematical
principles including algebra. The goal of this course is to simplify
matters so you can again feel confident using math in your
everyday life. Principles you will learn include number theory,
rules of divisibility, mental computation, and most importantly,
why things work the way they do. You may even find yourself
able to help your children or grandchildren with the modern
math concepts taught in schools today that seem so unusual to
many of us who were taught math decades ago.
Instructor:
Nick Diaz taught mathematics for 30 years
in the Frederick County Public School system. He currently
serves as Mathematics and Enrichment Consultant, and
coordinates the middle school mathematics competition
and high school Academic Tournament for the county.
He also conducts informal sessions and seminars with
elementary school teachers to enhance their knowledge and
understanding of mathematics. He has been recognized with
numerous awards including the Washington Post Agnes
Meyer Outstanding Teacher Award. Nick currently serves
on the Frederick Community College Board of Trustees.

ILR886 Secret to Aging with Less
Aches and Pain
6 sessions, 12 hours
Why let aches and pains diminish your lifestyle when there’s
a good chance you can do something about them? This is your
chance to learn from a doctoral level physical therapist about
methods to minimize pain and maximize mobility. Learn about
the common disorders of the spine, neck, shoulders, back, hips,
and knees and what can be done to live more fully in spite of the
condition. Topics addressed include osteoporosis, degenerative
joint diseases, spinal stenosis, bursitis, and other common
ailments and what you can do to cope, compensate, and/or
recover. Course content is adapted to student interests. Life is
short; feel better.
Instructor:
Dr. Carol Hamilton Zehnacker, D.P.T., (“Dr. Z”) is
a physical therapist with over 30 years of experience, including
as director of rehabilitation at Frederick Memorial Hospital,
owner of a private practice, and lecturer and consultant to the
Arthritis Foundation and the American Running Association.
