Examines one of America’s most turbulent decades: the 1960s. This course explores the Civil
Rights Movement, the VietnamWar, the Anti-War Movement, and changing cultural and
social mores. Emphasis will include an examination of the history, politics, literature, and
music of the era.

Honors College
Many courses available at Frederick Community College (FCC) are offered in an honors format.
The courses have the same approved core learning outcomes and content requirements as
regular courses. Honors courses are smaller, emphasize critical thinking/research projects, and
typically stress a high level of reading, writing, and discussion. In addition to prerequisites
listed for individual honors courses, prerequisites for all honors courses include testing
placement or the recommendation of a faculty member or the student’s advisor. Course

Introduces first-year students to current, real-world issues as they advance their critical
thinking, communication, and research skills. Students will explore questions of local,
national, and global significance through multicultural contexts, while building relationships
with their classmates, instructor, and other college personnel. Additionally, students will use
campus resources and co-curricular events to enhance their educational experience and foster
their college success.
