This one-day Safe Sitter ® course is designed for teens ages 11-15 who are ready to learn the skills they need to care for themselves and younger children. This includes babysitting business ideas, childcare essentials, safety for the sitter, injury management, and preventing problem behavior. Students will also be introduced to infant and child choking rescue and child CPR. A completion card will be awarded at the conclusion of the class. Students should bring a bag lunch. NOTE: Students will eat in the Cougar Café with KOC students and should bring a non-perishable lunch that is safe without refrigeration. The Frederick Community College Foundation invites eligible families to apply for a Youth Programs Summer Scholarship valued at up to $300 per child. Eligibility is determined with consideration for Frederick County residency, age of child(ren), registration in summer 2024 programs, and total family annual income, with specific details noted on the application. Measure and mix ingredients using a variety of cooking tools as you learn the basics of ‘kitchenology.’ A variety of items will be prepared, and you’ll get copies of the recipes so that you can make the deliciousness at home. KOC293 Mixed Media Mania AGES 10-13 Join us for an adventure in 2-Dimensional mixed media art! You will be introduced to famous collage artists of the past and present. Experiment with layering different media options. Compose your masterpiece with torn paper, yarn, fabric, paint, and endless options for materials. Through still life and photo reference studies, you will learn to compose a subject with any medium. Mixed media lends itself to creativity and self-expression so you will have a chance to create from your imagination. KOC445 Calling All Painters AGES 10-13 Find inspiration with our introductory acrylic painting class. You will learn some of the basic vocabulary of the acrylic artist. You will discover that acrylic paint can be applied in a variety of ways! Then, combine these new skills for your final masterpiece. From a classroom still life to an organic study in the gardens outside, you can find the master painter in you! KOC556 Art On Campus AGES 10-13 & 12-15 Discover art outdoors! You will be introduced to landscapes and nature sketching, with photo reference studies. Then, we will set up near the gardens and trees around campus for some real-life experience. Through the use of graphite, charcoal, and soft pastels, you will learn how to compose landscapes and sketches, as well as various techniques to apply each medium. KOC617 Pinch Pot Palooza AGES 8-11 Create pots, creatures, or colorful cupcakes, the possibilities are endless using the pinch pot and coil methods of hand building. Students will be given a new challenge each day as they let their imaginations soar! Items will be fired and ready for pick-up approximately four weeks after the end of the class, based on the college ceramic studio kiln availability. KOC649 Painting on Canvas AGES 8-11 & 10-13 Paint, paint, canvas, paint, paint, brush! After learning a new painting technique each day, create a new piece of art to decorate your room or give to family or friends. No experience necessary but students MUST be willing to have fun! KOC653 Theatricks Circus Experience AGES 9-14 Run away and join the circus without actually leaving home! Juggling, plate spinning, and stilt walking are just a few of the circus techniques you will learn in this very hands-on, full-day, weeklong experience. Mark Lohr, head Theatricks coach, has been involved in circus performance and education for nearly 30 years and has toured the U.S. with the George Carden International Circus. In addition to his vast experience, he brings along his teenage and adult children who have grown up in the program and now teach and perform together in the family show, Laugh Out Lohr (LOL)! The week will wrap up with a culminating performance where students show off their hard work, new skills and hilarity to friends and family. Price for this full day class includes Lunch Bunch: Bring Your Own Lunch. KOC746 Advanced Clay for Teens AGES 13-15 With the focus on hand building, learn the ancient techniques of slab, coil, and pinch pot methods to create one-of-a-kind functional and decorative clay pieces. Research the historical significance of the art you are learning about. Combining your imagination with the tools and materials provided, you’ll build three-dimensional projects like bowls, vases, sculpture creatures, and Ugly Face jugs. Students will be encouraged to work at their own pace. Items will be fired and ready for pick-up approximately four weeks after the end of the class, based on the college ceramic studio kiln availability. KOC776 Summer Band Camp for Middle School AGES 11-15 Are you looking for a good way to keep up your musical skills this summer? Do you want to play with other middle school musicians in a fun and welcoming atmosphere? In this program you will have an opportunity to perform a variety of repertoire to improve your skills and musicianship. A final performance on stage will occur on the last day of camp. Percussion instruments will be provided (please bring sticks); all other instruments must be brought by the student. Open to all traditional concert band instruments. KOC777 Black Light Illumination Theatre AGES 8-15 Students will explore the many facets of black lights as they create a magical world in which light, art, and rhythm are synchronized with movement and sound. They will discover the enchanting world of Black Light Illumination Theatre when music, storytelling, and theatrical imagery are combined with neon and UV reactive materials and media, like paint, props, and costume pieces, to produce a delightful and colorful story to share at the end of the week. Kids on Campus • Summer 2024 8 KOC780 Music FUNdamentals AGES 11-15 This class puts the fun in fundamentals! Learn how music works, how to write music, and how to better understand it (and have fun along the way). Through games and activities, students will broaden their understanding of all types of music through exploration of melody, rhythm, harmony, and more. Open to students with and without previous music experience. KOC781 Jazz Ensemble AGES 11-15 Explore different styles and techniques in this fun, performance-based class. Students will work together over the week to learn and grow then show off their efforts with a performance. Students must have at least two years of experience on their instrument and must bring their own instrument. FCC will supply drum kits (but not sticks) and piano. KOC782 Beats and Bytes AGES 11-15 Unleash your inner sound engineer, DJ, and musical mastermind in this techbased class. Students will use professional software to create beats, compose new music, and master recordings. No previous experience required, but bring your creativity! KOC783 Creative Crafts AGES 10-13 Learn individual basic craft skills that can help expand your hobbies & interests! From crochet, card crafting, to embroidery and more, students will leave with a selection of beautiful crafts and skills for a lifetime. KOC785 Hula Hoop & Flow AGES 8-15 Learn to hula hoop & other flow skills such as poi and staff with Ms. Soolah. Make your own custom hula hoop, poi and staff and at the end of the week we will showcase our new tricks to family and friends! This is a great way to boost confidence, create a healthy movement routine and make new friends! KOC786 Sewing Made Simple AGES 10-13 & 12-15 In this class, you will learn, or review, how to set up a sewing machine and operate it safely and responsibly. Utilizing a special tool, students will be guided to make small quilt-like projects that are fast and easy. Students may come up with a few ideas on their own as well. No matter your experience level, everyone will have instant success in this class. You will surprise your family with the projects you bring home. KOC787 Art Around the World AGES 10-13 Explore and celebrate various cultures from around the globe by creating projects representative of those regions. Discuss your opinions about what you find appealing in art and how each culture is expressed differently than others through their art traditions. You’ll feel like you have traveled all over the globe as you learn about different people and places by exploring their art and craft traditions. KOC788 Sewing for Beginners AGES 8-11, 10-13 & 12-15 Do you want to learn to sew but have little to no experience? Join us in this beginners course to learn how to properly set up a sewing machine, make adjustments, and operate it safely and responsibly. Each day students will learn new skills and complete an exercise, or small project, demonstrating what you have learned. You will be proud of what you will learn and accomplish during this class. KOC634 Minecraft: Architecture - Seven Wonders Of The World AGES 10-13 Combining the open world of Minecraft with the versatility of Legos, students will learn about various types of architectural wonder. From the Great Wall of China, to the Empire State Building, students will study about the architects who helped to create these masterpieces of craftsmanship, and then build their own. Students will begin by exploring building designs, and then use the computer to recreate them using Minecraft and Legos. Combining what they have learned with their imaginations, they will create their own architectural marvels, focusing on their own Wonder of the World. KOC642 How to Build a PC AGES 9-14 Building your own PC can be a cost effective and rewarding experience for anybody. In this hands-on class, students will disassemble and reassemble recycled PCs. They will learn to repair and troubleshoot issues as they build a PC from the ground up. Program installation is the next step and then it’s onto use the PC for gaming and other tasks. Computer components and tools will be provided, but students do not bring home a PC. Kids on Campus • Summer 2024 14 Drop Off / Pick Up The Conference Center (Building E) and the Visual & Performing Arts Center (Building F) are the two places where students can be dropped off and picked up. Please check your child’s classroom to see which location is best. There are guiding signs and a campus map available. Sign In / Sign Out Procedure Student Sign-In Procedure Due to the large public open campus environment and our concern for student safety, we require that parents/guardians accompany students to their designated classroom and personally sign in their student with a staff member for each scheduled day of camp. Students cannot be checked into their classroom until 10 minutes till (8:50am or 12:50pm). Students cannot be left in our care until they are signed in. Students 13 and older may sign themselves in once a completed Self-Sign In/Out Form is on file with the Kids on Campus office. Please contact the office to complete a copy or the instructor will have one available when you sign your student in for class. Student Sign-Out Procedure All students must be signed out at the end of each class. Students 13 and older may sign themselves out if there is a Self-Sign In/Out Form on file for them. No student is permitted to leave the classroom until signed out by a parent or guardian, a KOC staff member, or permission by the Self-Sign In/Out Form. If students remain after class 15 minutes after camp is over (12:15pm, 1:15pm, or 4:15pm) the student will be escorted to the Conference Center Building Lobby to sit with Kids on Campus staff member until pick up. For your child’s safety, any additional adult (outside of parent/guardian on file) picking up them must be added to the Authorized to Pick-Up list. The adult will be required to present proper photo identification during sign-out before the child can be released in their care. It will also be the parent/guardian’s responsibility to inform KOC if a name needs to be removed from the Authorized to Pick-Up list. Lunch Bunch If your child is signed up for a morning and an afternoon class, they must also be enrolled in Lunch Bunch to provide consistent supervision. If you do not wish to participate in Lunch Bunch you must pick your child up for lunch and sign them in for their afternoon class. Students participating are escorted by Kids on Campus staff from their morning class to Lunch Bunch, and then to their afternoon class. FCC does not serve lunch during Kids on Campus programs. Students must bring a non-perishable lunch and drink with them to campus each day. Please note: Refrigeration is not available for packed lunches. Dietary Allergies Frederick Community College cannot provide an environment free of food that may trigger allergies including but not limited to nuts, wheat, soy, or eggs. KOC Refund Policy College cancellation of class(es) Students will automatically be refunded 100% of class tuition and fees if a class is cancelled by the College. The annual registration fee of $9 is only refundable when FCC cancels a course, and the student is not registered for any other course. Student Initiated Drop/Refund Request – Within the Refund Period Students wishing to drop a CEWD Kids on Campus class will receive a full refund, excluding the $9 annual registration fee provided the request is received 7 days prior to the class start date. Self- drops are available online during the refund period, which is (7) days prior to the class start date. Appropriate documentation may include electronic or hard-copy documents from medical providers, employers, childcare providers, or others that can validate extenuating circumstances. Transfer Requests Students whose class has been cancelled or are electing to drop a class during the refund period may choose to transfer their funds toward an alternate class. • The request to transfer must include the new course, including class start date. Medications/Emergencies FCC Staff are not authorized to administer any non-emergency medication (prescription or non-prescription) to students. Emergency medications can be administered by FCC staff with written authorization from a physician and parent/guardian. Emergency Medication includes a rescue inhaler or epi-pen. The Medication Administration Authorization form can be found at www.frederick.edu/youth. Completed forms should be sent to [email protected]. If non-emergency medication must be taken while the student is on campus, the parent/guardian is responsible for coming to campus to administer the medication. Emergency Medications are not kept overnight at Frederick Community College. The medications will be required to travel with the student. They will need to sign in and out of class with the student. If they are registered for a full day of camp, our staff will handle the travel of medications from AM class to Lunch and then to their PM class. Parents are expected to sign the medication in the morning with the student and out at the end of the day. Medications cannot remain on campus! In emergencies requiring immediate medical attention, your child will be taken to the nearest hospital emergency room. Your signature below authorizes the person responsible at Frederick Community College to have your child transported to that hospital. Bathroom Procedures All Students at FCC must have independent personal care skills. KOC staff does not provide personal hygiene assistance.
