Thanksgiving Theme

Iris Paper Folding is a wonderful technique that looks difficult
but is fairly easy to master. It makes gorgeous greetings cards
and can be incorporated into scrapbooking and other crafts.
All materials are included in the course fee and directions are
provided to you so you can create additional projects on your own.
Instructor:
Kathy Barylski is a lifelong crafter, having learned
many techniques with yarns, fabrics, paper and more. She is the
owner and designer of handcrafted items under the business
name of KB Creates. And Kathy is a Girl Scout Trainer, teaching
both crafts and outdoor skills.

Einstein’s Theories

Newton almost got it right, but Einstein’s theories
revolutionized the way we look at the universe we live in.
Quantum Mechanics shows us that in the world of the infinitely
small, anything is possible, including being in two places at the
same time. Really!! Amazingly, this course requires no math or
science background. This does not mean, however, that you will
not be challenged and asked to look at conventional situations
in totally new and unconventional ways. An open and inquisitive
mind is a must for this course.

This course will give an overview of Islamic history and the
culture of the Islamic world. Topics may include religion,
languages, art, music, science, medicine, technology, food, and
history and the influence of the spice trade.
Instructor:
Erum Marfani is a full-time professor of
Mathematics at FCC. She has bachelor degrees in political
science and mathematics as well as a Masters in statistics. She
has lived in Maryland most of her life and is a proud Frederick
resident. She loves to learn about different cultures and is
learning her 6th and 7th languages. In her spare time, Erum
likes to cook, read, and watch old movies.

ILR547 Painting in the Style of the Master
Artists: American Artists
4 sessions, 8 hours
You don’t have to spend years as an apprentice to learn how to
paint your own masterpiece. Trade secrets of the great masters are
uncovered in this class. Using acrylic paint, students will create up
to 3 paintings capturing the brush stroke, style, and techniques of
Master Artists. Beginners welcome but some painting experience
is preferred. The artists we cover will vary each term. Supplies are
included with your fee. American artists to include 2 or more of
the following artists: Grandma Moses, Edward Hopper, Andrew
Wyeth, Winslow Homer, or Mary Cassatt.
Instructor:
Jeanne McDermott has a master’s Degree in Art
Education from the College of Notre Dame of Md. and worked
over 7 years as a floral designer for Radebaughs in Towson, Md.
She has over 10 years teaching experience for FCPS.
