Academic Affairs, Continuing Education, and Workforce Development (AACEWD)
Master Plan – 2020-2025
Executive Summary
August 22, 2019
This Academic Affairs, Continuing Education, and Workforce Development (AACEWD) Master Plan is a
guide for implementing the goals and priorities set by the AACEWD team. The Plan contains student
success strategies, an assessment mechanism for current programs and practices, the roadmap for
diversity, equity, and inclusion, and needed infrastructure changes to prepare for the future. Under the
leadership of the Provost and Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs, Continuing Education, and
Workforce Development, the team sought to create a plan to:
• Identify and strengthen effective curriculum development, program review, and assessment of
AACEWD Team initiatives;
• Develop and gather benchmark data to gauge progress on the student lifecycle and guided
pathways;
• Identify and champion other academic initiatives that drive planning and budgeting; and
• Coordinate and align the AACEWD Master Plan with FCC 2020 (the College Strategic Plan), other
College internal plans, the Maryland State Plan, and the Middle States Self-Study process.
The FCC Board of Trustees established the creation of the Master Plan as one of the 2018-2019 Annual
Strategic Priorities following the merger of the Academic Affairs and Continuing Education & Workforce
Development teams. The Master Plan presented here reflects a transparent view of a five-year vision
shared by the entire College community.
The AACEWD Master Plan is arranged around four core themes. They are Educational Excellence,
Academic Support and Infrastructure, Faculty and Staff Development and Leadership, and Community
Engagement and Economic Development. Each theme contains multiple strategic priorities, desired
outcomes, and action items/timelines necessary to respond to academic, workforce and community
trends in an ever-changing and emerging world. Grounded in the framework of a global community and
guided by the values of inclusive excellence--a concept that underscores that our success is dependent
on how well we engage, value, and include our students, faculty, and staff – we are proud of the
AACEWD Master Plan.
At its heart, the FCC ACCEWD Master Plan reflects a collaborative process, garnering trust and
embracing buy in. The Plan itself:
• Is a framework for decision-making within a learning community
• Is a vehicle for others to design plans (Technology, Facilities, Enrollment Management, Learning
Support, and Marketing)
• Provides guidance for resource allocation
• Offers a future vision mapped out with priorities and desired outcomes
• Is open to revision and feedback from stakeholders and responsive to educational and
demographic changes
