ILR745 Introduction to Zentangles®
4 sessions, 12 hours
“Anything is possible…one stroke at a time!”. This is based
on the Zentangle® art method developed by Rick Roberts and
Maria Thomas. Discover this easy-to-learn drawing technique
that inspires creativity and develops mindfulness. This method is
used as a way to reduce stress, free your mind and increase focus.
Combine simple, repetitive drawing strokes into “tangle” patterns
to create a one of a kind works of art. Working on a 3.5 inch
square paper tiles, students will learn basic tangles, how to shade
to make drawings appear 3-D, and how to embellish any drawing.
No art experience is necessary. Note: Supplies included in course
cost. No refunds after close of business 1/29.

Barb Allensworth’s career as a Contract
Negotiator with Electronic Data Systems (EDS) spanned 23
years. A native of upper Montgomery County, she is also
experienced in various needle arts, mixed media arts, was co-
owner of a stained glass company and is a certified decorative
painter. Now retired, Barb earned her title of Certified
Zentangle® Teacher (CZT

) in April 2015 from the founders of
the Zentangle® method. She now enjoys introducing students
of all ages to the Zentangle® method, watching their joy and
surprise as they discover their own hidden artist from within.

About Identity Theft, Hacking, and
Cyber Security
2 sessions, 4 hours
Identity theft, hacking, cyber security…how concerned should
you be? In this course we will explore the different ways breaches
occur, our everyday habits that makes us susceptible to hacking
and identity theft, and together learn simple ways to safeguard
our private information. Some topics for discussion in this course
will include social engineering, phishing, password sniffing,
social media, scam or hoax, data disposal and many others.
Using examples of identity theft scenarios we will broaden our
knowledge about hacking and different forms of breaches.
Instructor:
Dr. Helen Stevens-Benefo has worked in the
insurance industry for twenty years. Helen has spent a majority
of those years analyzing risks and advising her clients on how
to best mitigate risks. The world of technology presents a
whole new challenge, one that is fun to explore yet intriguing
to understand its emerging risks and ever changing trends and
facets. Her hope is to explore these fascinating trends and risks
together with her students.

ILR493 Photo Painting onYour iPad
3 sessions, 9 hours
Even if you can’t paint or draw, if you can take a decent photo,
you can use technology to create a work of art. In this three
part class, you will learn some iPad basics including finding
apps and installing them. You will also learn how to take
photos that you didn’t capture on your phone or iPad (such
as with your camera or a print copy of a photo) and transfer
them into your iPad. Finally, you will learn how to use your
new apps to make a photo look like a watercolor or an oil
painting. At the end of this class, you will have a “painting”
worthy of printing and framing, and it will be your secret that
you didn’t ever wet a brush. Participants must bring their own
iPad and a pre-paid $15 iTunes gift card to class. Participants
should also have some computer experience and an email
address that can be accessed from classroom computers.
Instructor:
CamMiller is a retired educator turned
professional fine art photographer who lives in New Market,
Maryland. After living and teaching on the Eastern Shore of
Maryland, she moved to Central Maryland, where she is fully
engaged in the arts community. She is a member of several
museums, arts councils, and photography organizations. Cam
has won many awards for her photographs, the subjects of
which include light paintings, still lifes, landscapes, and nature.
Her work has been accepted into numerous juried exhibits and
competitions. She teaches photography classes at Frederick
Community College, as well as does private tutoring. To see more

ILR824 Zentangle®- Zendalas
1 session, 3 hours
A Zendala is a mandala created with tangles. Mandalas are
circular works of art that date as far back as the 4th century as a
spiritual & ritual symbol in Hinduism & Buddhism, representing
the microcosm of the universe. Often very geometrical,
reminiscent of looking through a kaleidoscope, the results can
astound even the artist. Now that you have been introduced
to Zentangle® & a number of tangles, learn new techniques
for Zendalas. A new Zentangle® Kit with Zendala tiles will be
provided. This class is a single 3 hour session for individuals
who have taken ILR745, Introduction to Zentangle®. Course
pricing includes a $5 material fee. Note: No refunds after close of
business 2/26.
