SEN473 Current Issues in the Middle East
5 sessions, 10 hours
This popular, ongoing course offers new content each term
as participants discuss and analyze the stories behind today’s
headlines. Focusing on the shifting landscape that defines the

to understand the forces that have influenced current events.
Through lectures, readings, films and, occasionally, guest
speakers, the instructor will share her unique insights on the
region gleaned over a period of more than four decades. Subjects
of current interest will include mass migrations, economic
disparities, shifting borders, ethnic tensions, conflicting
nationalisms, and extremism in the name of religion. U.S. policy
as it relates to these issues will also be considered.
